Why we do it

We are James and Kate, a father-daughter duo driven by a shared passion for the outdoors. James is a seasoned adventurer with a lifetime of experience leading expeditions worldwide, from first ascents and skiing in Antarctica to biking, running and skiing across Europe and North America. Kate, following in his footsteps, is an avid mountain runner, cyclist and skier. Together, we’ve built Wild and Remote to share our love of adventure and teamwork with others.

 

James’s years of expedition experience taught him that the most successful adventures are built on teamwork, careful planning and shared goals. Inspired by this, we developed the concept of Team Expedition Racing, guided by our motto: Go Together. Our events level the playing field, rewarding not just speed but strategy, collaboration and determination.

 

We’re committed to creating small, friendly events that are as fun as they are challenging. By keeping costs accessible and focusing on self-reliance, we ensure our races remain inclusive without compromising on safety. For us, it’s not just about crossing the finish line—it’s about fostering camaraderie, celebrating achievements and building a community of adventurers who are proud to be part of the Wild and Remote family.

MEET THE TEAM

  • James Harris

    James has always had a passion for exploring and adventure. He joined the Army at the age of 18, where for over 25 years he led expeditions to extreme regions, ranging from the Arctic to the Antarctic. He founded Wild & Remote as he wanted to share his passion for adventure and to give a wide variety of people the fun and thrill of adventure events; competing in teams and sharing the experience.

  • Kate Harris

    Kate is James’s daughter. Growing up in North Devon she has always been a very ‘outdoorsy’ person, with a love of running, horse riding, cycling and exploring. She worked in London for three years before giving up city life to experience six months of adventure in South Island, New Zealand. She is now back in Devon combining her love for the outdoors with her creative skills helping James launch Wild & Remote!

  • Sheron Harris

    Sheron is James’s wife. A former midwife and now part-time art dealer. She grew up sailing, rowing and running in Devon. Her love of the sea still remains but she has recently taken up gravel biking which has enabled her to explore the fantastic West Country. No job is too big or too small, she’s always on hand to make a cup of tea or locate a much needed plaster! She’s excited to join her husband and daughter on their new venture.
